L-R's rally falls short in loss to Carson-Newman

Carson-Newman held off a furious rally in the second half by Lenoir-Rhyne to win by a 38-35 score Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Div. II football playoffs at Burke-Tarr Stadium in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Carson-Newman (9-2), ranked No. 22 in the nation, advances to the national quarterfinals to face Valdosta State (9-2) next Saturday in Valdosta, Ga.

Horford leads Hawks to 101-91 win over Bobcats

Atlanta Hawks coach Larry Drew warned his team to take the Charlotte Bobcats seriously and forget all about their record last season.

It sure looked as if his players were listening.

Al Horford had 26 points and 13 rebounds, and the Atlanta Hawks beat the Charlotte Bobcats 101-91 on Friday night for their fourth consecutive victory.
