Hornets avenge loss, advance to title game

Overcoming a 8-0 halftime deficit, the Catawba County Hornets advanced to the Central Carolinas Football League championship game.

Hornets linebacker Alvin Gibson recovered a fourth quarter fumble in the end zone, helping his team knock off Richmond County on Saturday, 12-8.

The victory for Catawba County (13-1) avenges an earlier defeat to the Golden Bears this season.

NCHSAA releases soccer brackets, 6 teams qualify

The North Carolina High School Association (NCHSAA) released its boys prep soccer playoff brackets on Monday.

Below are the six match ups featuring Catawba County schools, which will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 31:

2A playoffs
Bandys (6-13) at Shelby (16-4-1)
Bunker Hill (10-8-1) at Brevard (10-4-1)
Newton-Conover (12-6-1) at Owen (19-1)
