Tied late in the third quarter, the Lady Cougars of Alexander Central pulled ahead in the closing moments of the game and held off a late Foard surge to win 41-38 on Thursday.
Maddie Suddreth led Alexander Central (7-1, 2-0) with 22 points, while Marie Ritchie added 12 points.
Scoring a game-high 24 points was Foardâ€™s Brooke Robinson. Teammate Chelsea Turner added 14 points for Foard (4-4, 0-2).

Down 45-39 entering the fourth quarter, the St. Stephens boys basketball team scored 20 points in the final quarter, lifting them past South Caldwell, 59-55, for its first conference win of the season.
Drew Starkey scored a career-high 19 points, while Jordan James added 15 points in the victory for St. Stephens (6-3, 1-1).
Jordan Propst scored 30 points, leading South Caldwell (3-5, 0-2).

CHARLOTTE â€” Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith said when it comes to comparing Cam Newton to Tim Tebow there is no comparison.
Smith said time will prove Newton is by far the better NFL quarterback.
"If Tebow is standing next to me I would tell it to his face â€” come check me out in five years, Jack, and you'll know who's the best quarterback," Smith said.
