The Newton-Conover volleyball team has the date, time and location penciled in after winning 3-1 Tuesday against twice-beaten North Surry.
“It took everybody on my team to win this game today,” said N-C coach Linda Richards, who advanced to her first state title game at the school. “The bench did a great job. We already had a scouting report, so we knew what their tendencies were.
Falling down 1-0 after a competitive first set, the Lady Red Devils (28-5) rallied to win three straight and the match.
Heading into the playoffs Wednesday, the Newton-Conover soccer team sees shades of 2007.
The Red Devils (20-2-1), who won the state championship that season, are experiencing a bounce-back 2011 campaign.
After finishing last year with an 8-14-1 record, coach Angelo Palozzi said the players re-dedicated themselves to the game.
“Our captains came up to me in the winter last year and wanted to get things going,” Palozzi said. “They got a lot of the kids together, started working, playing a lot and getting in the weight room.”
