Kevin Cline was Newton-Conover's "X factor" on Friday night against West Caldwell.

Whenever the Red Devils needed a big play, they got it from their junior quarterback. He rushed 14 times for 177 yards and passed for another 82 yards in Newton's 57-30 Senior Night rout of West Caldwell.

Newton-Conover (5-6 2-5) capped a frustrating season by posting a 50-plus point performance Friday.

It didn't come without a challenge from West Caldwell (0-11, 0-8), which was last winless in 2008 and has struggled through seven straight losing seasons.

FRIDAY FOOTBALL: Trojans shut down Bears

October 28, 2011

Big plays and big defense helped lift Bandys past Bunker Hill, 35-7, on Friday as the Trojans secured fourth place in the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference to conclude the season.

"I am happy with a win," Bandys coach Randy Lowman said, adding the victory helps avenge the Trojans' 49-20 loss to Bunker Hill last year. "They got us so fooled last year, we couldn't even play with them. Our defense played great tonight ... our guys played hard."
