Newton-Conover converted four Maiden turnovers into touchdowns as the Red Devils defeated the Blue Devils 48-26 in both teamsâ€™ conference opener.
â€śThat was the difference in the game, I think,â€ť said Newton-Conoverâ€™s Jake Cansler, who intercepted Maiden quarterback Matt Johnsonâ€™s first pass of the game and later recovered two fumbles. â€śWe got the ball back to the offense plenty of times.â€ť
Maiden coach Brian Brown, too, said turnovers were the difference in the contest.
With the score tied at 14 at halftime, Bunker Hill needed to make something happen against East Burke.
It did exactly that.
The Bears scored on the opening drive of the second half Friday and forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to seize control of their conference opener. The Bears scored five touchdowns in the second half en route to a 47-14 win at home Friday over the Cavaliers. Its the first time since 1980 the Bears started a season 5-0.
