Crawdads Take Half Step Back

August 13, 2010

Charleston catcher J.R. Murphy enjoyed his Friday night in Hickory. Murphy hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in the third and fourth innings to propel Charleston to an 18-4 win over the Crawdads. Murphy finished Friday with three hits and nine RBIs.

The loss puts the Crawdads a game behind Lakewood in the race for the second-half pennant in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League. Charleston and Hickory play Game 3 at 6 p.m. Saturday.

“Having me and him back is good,” Coates said. “It means we are both experienced and know what to do when we get into the first game.”
