Foard rallies for win over Alexander Central

December 29, 2010

In the opening game of the 24th annual girls Catawba Valley Classic, the fourth-seeded Lady Tigers used aggressive defense and fast-paced offense to advance with a 55-50 win over fifth-seeded Alexander Central.

Fred T. Foard out-rebounded Alexander Central 38-34 and finished the game with 10 blocked shots as a team.

"This was a big win for us, especially considering they beat us by nine points a few weeks ago," said Tigers head coach Wendy Price. "Our intensity was better this time around, and we shot the ball better. We did a lot better defensively this time around."

First Impressions of the C-V Classic

The top-seeded St. Stephens Indians boys’ basketball team advanced to the second round of the 24th annual Catawba Valley Classic with a 70-42 victory over eighth-seeded South Caldwell in the opening game of the tournament.
“It was a good team effort,” said head coach Gary Bowne. “We had good balance. The kids played hard. The bench finally contributed in the second half like we wanted them to in the first half. They improved and made adjustments at halftime. We have to turn around and play tomorrow. We are in the winner’s bracket, and we like it. “
