Lions Cage Bears

November 13, 2010

The first round of the state 2-AA West playoffs did not go as planned for Bunker Hill. The Bears rolled into Shelby on Friday night a lot of momentum, but they sputtered offensively losing 38-6.

Bunker Hill was limited to 200 yards of total offense and was pinned on its half of field most of the night.

“They came in and played very hard, very physical,” said Shelby head coach Chris Norman. “They gave us a challenge. That three-headed monster gave us a scare all week, but our defensive unit played well, and we won the line-of-scrimmage battle against them.”

Warhorses Trample Red Devils

November 13, 2010

The Owen Warhorses rode their workhorse to a first-round win over the Newton-Conover Red Devils, and he is a big one.

Running back Austin Davis, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior, had a game-high 197 yards rushing and three offensive touchdowns for Owen in a 28-25 win at Gurley Stadium.

Davis scored 26 points Friday — four touchdowns and a 2-point conversion — and called his performance a “career night.” Owen coach Ken Ford said Davis has made “big plays” the entire season.
