Lenoir-Rhyne Coach Mayur Chaudhari and ten football players had a different kind of workout a few Saturdays ago. They came to help the Historical Association of Catawba County move its collection items to a new storage facility. The big moving day was Saturday, April 11th and the HACC was fortunate to have five players help in the morning and five in the afternoon.

Treating the trees right

A Chinese Proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now.” With that said, The City of Newton recognizes this and with joyful eagerness recently planted trees at Newton’s new fire department. These trees are just a small piece of a bigger plan to inspire and promote tree awareness for residents.

A special day for special athletes

Friday may have been a normal day for most, but it was a very special day for students at Newton-Conover High School’s Gurley Stadium.

"I believe it is the best day of the year," said Dr. Betsy Rosenbalm, N-CCS EC Director.

The music began to play and the schools were announced from Balls Creek Elementary to even Newton-Conover High School itself.

False Breaking and Entering call leads to Arrest in Almost Three Year Old B and E Case

An alleged home break-in call has led to the arrest of a Maiden man in connection with an incident that occurred in June of 2012.

Deputies and detectives responded to the call at 3440 Walker Road after the caller said there was a possible break-in in progress and the Communications Center reported hearing a gun shot.

Cat. Co. Citizens charged with car theft

Wednesday morning, two Catawba County citizens were arrested for possession of a stolen motor-vehicle.

Megan Nicole Miller, 32, of Conover, was arrested by the Conover Police Department for possession of a stolen motor-vehicle and failure to return a hired motor vehicle.

Blush Hair and Nail Boutique recently made its way to downtown.

The shop that was previously located in Hickory has relocated, hoping to serve the citizens of eastern Catawba County.

Claremont man misses 14 court appearances

Benjamin Charles Lagunas, 35, of Hunawill Street in Claremont was arrested Tuesday by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office for missing multiple court appearances.
