Newton woman arrested for possession

Chelsea Renee Scully, 22, of Holly Springs Drive in Newton was arrested by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.

‘Shady’ Neighbor Causes Alarm

When the Newton Police Department and State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) arrived at 1855 Shady Drive in Newton yesterday, neighbors said they weren't surprised.

The SBI reported to the scene to help with the investigation of a methamphetamine lab around 1:30 p.m., said Newton Police Maj. Tim Hayes.

Meth lab busted in Newton

When the Newton Police Department and State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) arrived at 1855 Shady Drive in Newton yesterday, neighbors said they weren't surprised.

Newton sees rash of B&Es

Newton Police Department responded to multiple breaking and entering calls on Friday and another on Sunday.

Around 9 a.m. on Friday, a vacant commercial building owned by Douglas Eugene Punch located in the 1600 block of Hwy. 10 was broken into and several hand tools were stolen. Maj. Tim Hayes said it appeared that someone forced entry to a door during the break-in.

Depot Authority moving forward with museum plans

The Newton Depot Authority is currently working to raise funding for a Southeastern Narrow Gauge and Shortline Museum to be created within the restored Newton Depot location.

The creation of the Chester and Lenoir Narrow Gauge Railroad began in 1873.

Sherrills Ford man pleads guilty of luring a minor

A Sherrills Ford man will spend 12-24 months behind bars after pleading guilty in Catawba County Superior Court to attempting to lure a minor child to get into a car with him.

Newton man gets 18-22 years for sexual offense plea

April 1, 2015

Aaron Christopher Lackey, 25, of Newton, will spend 18-22 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple sexual offenses with a minor child during Catawba County Superior Court Monday, March 30, 2015.

Head-on collision in Conover

April 1, 2015

A two car head-on collision shut down part of the intersection of Rock Barn Road and Thornburg Drive in Conover around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. The incident involved a Ford Explorer and a Nissan Sentra.
