"I came into class that morning expecting to learn horticulture," said Bandys High School Student Travis Goforth, 16. "But instead we learned about a calf being born."

Students in the morning horticulture class spend most of their time learning about plants, but each morning the students take a walk outside to feed the animals used for other agriculture and farming classes.

The former Cheerwine factory in Conover will soon be kicking with activity when Shea Stadium Sports opens its doors to soccer players of all ages.

The new indoor soccer complex will begin league play on Nov. 1, with teams ranging from 3 and 4 year olds to 30 and up.

Murray’s Mill Celebrates Tradition

Murray’s Mill will celebrate 30 years of festival Sept. 27 and 28. The historic mill, the last of its kind in Catawba County, has a vast and unique history.

“It’s just as it was when John Murray put the lock on the door for the last time,” said Melinda Herzog, Executive Director of the Catawba County Museum of History.
