After a rocky start, construction for the new Newton Fire Department Headquarters is starting to show on South Brady Avenue.
"Initially there were a few things that set us behind," said City Manager Todd Clark. "The calendar has been reworked and the completion date is April 2015."

American Legion Post 16 is sending nine students from Catawba County to the 2014 Tar Heel Boys State. The Legion has sponsored the event for more than 70 years.
Boys State is a program that teaches students in North Carolina about government and how the state operates.

On Saturday the Conover School will hold their Annual 5K Run and Roll event. This year's event will include a special mile run, Maddies' Mile, dedicated to the Conover School student, Maddie, who passed away in late May.
The run begins at 8 a.m. at the Conover School and registrate is $25 per runner. There are reduced rates available for running the mile only.
One of the two suspects involved in Wednesdayâ€™s vehicle chases has been arrested.
Erin Olivia Shell, 34, of 7799 Piney Mountain Street, Hickory, was arrested by Catawba County Sheriffs Office and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting a public officer.

Mayor Moritz also joined a policy discussion with senior Obama Administration officials to discuss support for manufacturing communities on economic, infrastructure and community revitalization.
A stolen truck was spotted by a citizen on Moss Farm Road around noon on Wednesday.
Upon arrival at the reported location, deputies saw the truck pulling out onto Hwy. 127 and heading south, according to Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid.
