Former Harris Teeter due for facelift

Newton city officials confirmed today to the O-N-E that they are negotiating zoning matters with a major mercantile business intending to put up a large retail store at the site of the now-abandoned Harris-Teeter food store on Northwest Boulevard (Hwy. 321-Business) at West 20thStreet.

On Tuesday afternoon, a stadium full of on-lookers braced the rainy, 54 degree weather to show support for nearly 600 Catawba County high school students.

Smells of hot chocolate and popcorn from the concession stand filled the air.

Tuesday, Sept. 23, was National Voter Registration Day. The State Board of Elections announced that its rolls grew by nearly 1.5 million over the last 10 years, bringing to total to 6.5 million registered voters in N.C. That number represents about 9 out of 10 eligible voters in N.C.

Students in the morning horticulture class spend most of their time learning about plants, but each morning the students take a walk outside to feed the animals used for other agriculture and farming classes.

Kicking it in Conover

The former Cheerwine factory in Conover will soon be kicking with activity when Shea Stadium Sports opens its doors to soccer players of all ages.

The new indoor soccer complex will begin league play on Nov. 1, with teams ranging from 3 and 4 year olds to 30 and up.

Murray’s Mill Celebrates Tradition

Murray’s Mill will celebrate 30 years of festival Sept. 27 and 28. The historic mill, the last of its kind in Catawba County, has a vast and unique history.
