Newton Fire Department does more than save lives

A cheerful breakfast around the table with a close group of friends can get serious very quickly at the Newton Fire Department. The eggs and bacon have to be put on hold at the sound of the siren.

“We come in, we pick at one another and we have a good time, but when the pager goes off, everything changes,” said Captain Jackie Lail. “It’s time to put our game face on.”

Council approves grant agreement, contingency fund

Newton City Council's retreat has been anything, but a vacation.

The council was on retreat starting on Monday and ending today, discussing new ways to improve the city.
