Clifton Smith officially sworn as district court judge

The Honorable Clifton H. Smith was appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to fill the seat of the retiring 25th District Court Judge Suzanne Owsley.

Smith was sworn in by Chief District Court Judge Robert Brady in a ceremony on Friday at the 1924 Courthouse in Newton.

New Newton fire station breaks new ground

Not even the snow and ice could put out the fire in Newton.

City officials, along with the police and fire department personnel, were in attendance for Friday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new fire station headquarters.
