Wreck injures two in Newton Monday

A two vehicle accident Monday afternoon sent both of the drivers to area hospitals and closed a portion of North Main Avenue for over an hour.

Two Newton men arrested

Five people, including two men from the Newton area, were arrested Saturday just minutes after they broke into a home in the 700 block of South Grove Street Extension in Lincolnton.

Catawba County Public Health receives Star award

As part of its safety recognition program, the N.C. Department of Labor certified Catawba County Public Health as a Carolina Star site. State Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry attended a ceremony at Public Health on Thursday, June 6 to present employees with a certificate and the Carolina Star flag.

Founder and CEO of Sarstedt remembered by Newton facility

Walter Sarstedt, 77,  of Nümbrecht, Germany passed away May 17,  after a short period of declining health.
Sarstedt was an engineer, inventor, entrepreneur, teacher, mentor and visionary leader.

Benfield graduates from Air Force basic

Air Force Airman Jaylen N. Benfield graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Egan convicted of child sex charges

Bryan Jonathan Egan, Jr, 25, of Denver, was convicted of three counts of Felony  Attempted First Degree Statutory Rape, Felony  First Degree Kidnapping and Felony  Indecent Liberties with a Child Wednesday in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.

Local man killed in Conover wreck
