Turnball graduates from Air Force basic training

 Air Force Airman James E. Turnball graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Seven candidates called it close by waiting to the last morning to file for the 2013 municipal elections with the Catawba County Board of Elections on Friday.

The deadline was noon, and the last candidate filed just after 11:30 a.m.

The filing period started at noon on Friday July 5.

Conover couple held on drug charges

A couple was arrested on multiple felony charges after law enforcement found various illegal drugs in a Conover area residence.

An investigation led the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office to obtain a search warrant on Wednesday for a residence at 1581 Glimmering Sand Lane, said Sheriff Coy Reid.
