Newton Police along with Catawba County EMS and Newton-Conover Rescue Squad responded to a call at 417 N Deal Ave. in Newton on Friday afternoon where one person was found dead and another person incapacitated. The O-N-E will have additional information once it is released by Newton P.D.
Jessalyn Johnson, a Catawba Valley Community College student enrolled in the Emergency Medical Science (Paramedic) program, was awarded the Stephanie Lynn Gabriel Memorial Scholarship established through the CVCC Foundation, Inc.
Steven Dewayne Icard, 37, of Hildebran was arrested Wednesday, April 3 for Felony Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Felony Conspire Manufacture Methamphetamine and Felony Possession/Distribution Meth Precursor. Catawba County Sheriff’s Office was able to make the arrest after finding warrants for Icard that span back to a case in 2011.
During the past couple of months, the city of Newton has been installing new LED street lights in the downtown area. Replacement of the existing lights will continue each year until all street lights have been switched out.
Maiden’s United Memorial Church of Christ displays the cross that was decorated by the congregation after the Sunday worship service for Easter. The church was built in 1887.

Two men were arrested for meth charges around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
Newton Police Captain Tim Hayes said officers originally visited the address, 728 E 18th Street, Newton because of information on a subject. The officers received information on a subject that was believed to be staying at the address.
