NEWTON â€” A competition that began at the top of August has paid off for the students of the Startown Elementary.
The school was presented with a $10,000 check on Tuesday morning at the Food Lion location on West N.C. Highway 10.

A partnership between Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) and the District Attorney for Burke, Catawba and Caldwell counties will cut down on the time it takes to process alcohol related DWI cases.
A contract signed in early November means that blood from these cases will now be tested at CVMC instead of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) laboratory.
MAIDEN â€” A Maiden man was convicted of eight felonies in Catawba County Criminal Superior Court.
Bryan Keith Harris, 35, was charged with possession/distribution of methamphetamine precursor, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of stolen goods, possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of larceny.
