The Newton City Council agreed to hire Newton attorney, John Cilley to replace longtime city attorney Larry Pitts who passed away last week.
“We cannot ever fill the shoes that Larry left but the board all felt comfortable with John,” Mayor Anne P. Stedman said.
City of Newton crews worked several hours Wednesday to restore water to over 140 residences in the Westview Heights neighborhood. The leak occurred at the intersection of West Hamilton Street and Westside Drive. The leak should be repaired by the end of the day according to city sources.
A judge agreed Monday to a continuance for Jeremy Mayfield’s, a former NASCAR driver, case in Catawba County Superior Court this week.
David Freedman, Mayfields’ attorney, and the district attorney’s office appear to be trying to work out a deal according to sources in the Catawba County Justice Center.
A Newton man was arrested early Monday morning with two arrest warrants against him.
Ryan Brandon Pressely, 28, of 3470 Robinson Rd., Newton, was arrested on one charge of First Degree Burglary at 2:20 a.m. Jan. 7, then charged again at 4 a.m. for a charge of Breaking and or Entering.
