Morning accident involves two N.C. state vehicles

Conover Police Department officer A.R. Williams investigates a two-vehicle accident at Thornburg Drive and I-40. The accident delayed motorists Wednesday morning when Cynthia Harmon in a state-owned van, turned in front of Justin Shannon in a N.C. DMV License and Theft cruiser.

Two men sentenced to prison

Two Charlotte men were sentenced this past Friday in U.S. District Court in Charlotte for violating the Clean Air Act by conducting false vehicle emissions inspections.

Lorane Rohr, who serves as the Exception Children's program director for Hickory Public Schools, said the school system's goal is to make sure to understand and identify the needs of a student with a disability.

Students stopped their normal routine of going to morning classes while Catawba County residents joined them to hear former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania  and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum speak.

Teacher sues N-C Schools

A teacher’s aide at Adrian Shuford Elementary School in Conover has brought a lawsuit against the Newton-Conover City Schools charging age discrimination in its hiring policies, after her court documents indicate she applied for a higher position and was by-passed for a younger applicant.

Connelly Springs man convicted of charges

Kenneth Ray Phillips, 48, Connelly Springs, pled guilty to and was convicted of (F) Breaking and Entering (2 counts), (F) Larceny (3 counts), (F) Possession of Stolen Goods, (M) Simple Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance and Habitual Felon status on Oct. 16 in Burke County Criminal Court.

For the upcoming elections, Catawba County updated its Voting Locator website. The website gives voters an online tool to search for their polling place location. Residents can excess the the website through Catawba County home page, the Board of Elections page or directly at gis.catawbacountync.gov/voter/.
