November 30th
The city of Newton has hired Julie Chang as the new Public Information Officer for the city of Newton.
Manufacturing is returning to the United States. Budding inventors from Vermont, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and places throughout the world have used the Manufacturing Solutions Center (MSC) to develop new filtered water pitchers, socks, rehabilitation braces for horses and more.
November 28th
Mary K. George, Catawba County Assistant Planning Director, has been named Outstanding Contributor To Agriculture in Catawba County for 2012. The award, which is presently annually by the Hickory Kiwanis Club as a part of Farm-City Week activities, was presented to George during the annual Farm-City Week banquet in Newton on Nov. 20, 2012.
Two Newton residents were arrested on Monday, Nov. 26 when Narcotics Investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office followed up on an anonymous tip.
The tip reported that methamphetamine was being manufactured at a residence located at 3148 Carmel Ridge Dr. in Newton, while children were present inside.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Sally Dellinger charged a northern Lincoln County man with one felony count of Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child.
Peter Edmayrd Jay III, 22, of 170 Car Farm Road, turned himself in at the Lincoln County Magistrate’s Office on Monday, Nov. 26.
Maurice Centel Mayfield who has been charged with fatally shooting Billy Chad Dellinger appeared in District Court Monday to meet with his court-appointed attorney and to learn the date for his probable cause hearing.

On Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 3:40 a.m., officers responded to the area of the 300 block of 19th Ave NE in reference to a call of a shooting. Upon arrival officers located one victim who had been shot. Billy Chad Dellinger, 35 of Hickory was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.
