A Hickory man is charged after marijuana was found in his basement.
The city of Newton opens the Newton Depot today from 5-7 p.m. for the West Side Area Drop-In. The drop-in is the fifth event for the planning board held to hear from Newton residents.
Guests are welcome to come and share comments or ask questions about future plans for the area.

Catawba firefighters responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon at 202 E. Central Ave. in Catawba. The 68-year-old homeowner was using his stove when his kitchen caught fire. The man was able to get out of his home and called 911 around 2:30 p.m. Catawba Fire Chief Gary Sigmon said the fire was contained in the kitchen.
Hickory Fire Department said goodbye to two fire fighters Tuesday night and welcomed its new fire chief.
