Hickory man charged with assault with weapon

December 18, 2012

After a search on Friday, Dec. 14, Newton Police Department located and charged Joshuah Richard Little, 31, of Hickory with Assault With a Deadly Weapon.

Friday around 4:30 p.m. Newton Police responded to a call by Christian Allen Brown, 20, of Newton. Brown reported that he and a passenger were stopped on N. Main Ave. in Newton by Little and another man, Horace Bost, 29.

Connecticut shooting

A man opened fire Friday inside the Connecticut elementary school where his mother worked as a teacher, killing 26 people, including 20 children, as youngsters cowered in their classrooms and trembled helplessly to the sound of gunfire reverberating through the building.

CVCC receives diversity award

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine recently recognized Catawba Valley Community College with the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for its efforts to embrace diversity and inclusion in its faculty, staff, students and suppliers.

CVCC was one of only five community colleges in the country, and the only one in North Carolina, to receive the award.

Maiden man arrested on multiple drug charges

Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Lincoln County Narcotics Division, arrested Jason Richard Dickerson, 31, of 3442 Fostall Lane, Maiden on Sunday, Dec. 9. Dickerson was charged with seven counts of Contempt of Court (Perjury) violations and 11 counts of various Felony possession and drug trafficking charges.

Greater Hickory Classic returning to Conover in '13

While the PGA hasn't officially announced the 2013 Champions Tour schedule, one thing is for certain — professional golf will return to the Hickory Metro in 2013.

Officials at Rock Barn announced Wednesday afternoon that the Greater Hickory Classic will return for an 11th event on Oct. 14-20, 2013.

Trent Lowman succeeds father as football coach

Bandys High School is trading one Lowman for another as its football coach next fall.

The Trojans announced Tuesday that Trent Lowman, the youngest son of retiring head coach Randy Lowman, will take his father's place as the head coach at Bandys.

On Sunday, Dec. 9, the Newton Police Department served a Grand Jury Indictment on Dewey Roy Stennette, of 822 N. Davis Ave. Newton.

BREAKING: Trent Lowman chosen to lead Trojans

Bandys High School is trading one Lowman for another as its football coach next fall.

The Trojans announced Tuesday that Trent Lowman, the youngest son of retiring head coach Randy Lowman, will take his father's place as the head coach at Bandys.

Trent Lowman has spent the past four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Bandys football program.
