Red Devils hire football coach

Newton-Conover City Schools hired a new football coach Thursday morning.

The Newton-Conover City Schools Board of Education met at 7:30 a.m. to consider approval of the hire of Brint Russell as P.E. coach at Newton-Conover High School. He'll be the new football coach for the Red Devils, replacing Nick Bazzle who left for Alexander Central earlier this year.

Conover copper theft suspect arrested

Police think they may have caught the man responsible for the thefts of $60,000 in copper wiring from an abandoned Conover plant in recent weeks.

Within the past month, there have been multiple copper cable larcenies at an abandoned manufacturing plant near 405 Wortha Herman Road Southwest in Conover.

May 20
* Arlette Nicole Forrester, 41, of Denver, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault. She washeld on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
