Hickory Tavern honors ‘Good Citizens’

The Hickory Tavern Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, honored three good citizens at their luncheon meeting on Dec. 11.

The chapter winner was Landry Brown from St. Stephens High School, son of Rodney and Tammy Brown. He will advance to the District level. 

City honors retirees

The city of Newton recognized six retiring employees in December.

On Dec. 14, the city honored Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Travis and firefighter/engineer Charles Richard “Rick” Crater with a luncheon at Fire Station 2 (Northside). Travis served the city for 20 years as a firefighter, lieutenant, captain and deputy fire chief.
