Catawba County Assistant County Manager Dewey Harris has earned the International City/County Management Association's (ICMA) Credentialed Manager designation. Established in 2002, the ICMA Credentialed Manager program recognizes professional government managers whom the ICMA certifies as having a “commitment to continuous learning and professional development."
On Thursday, Nov. 29, Narcotics Investigators with the Newton Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence located 214 West G St. in Newton.
The city of Newton has hired Julie Chang as the new Public Information Officer for the city of Newton.

Mary K. George, Catawba County Assistant Planning Director, has been named Outstanding Contributor To Agriculture in Catawba County for 2012. The award, which is presently annually by the Hickory Kiwanis Club as a part of Farm-City Week activities, was presented to George during the annual Farm-City Week banquet in Newton on Nov. 20, 2012.
Two Newton residents were arrested on Monday, Nov. 26 when Narcotics Investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff's Office followed up on an anonymous tip.
The tip reported that methamphetamine was being manufactured at a residence located at 3148 Carmel Ridge Dr. in Newton, while children were present inside.

Peter Edmayrd Jay III, 22, of 170 Car Farm Road, turned himself in at the Lincoln County Magistrate’s Office on Monday, Nov. 26.
Maurice Centel Mayfield who has been charged with fatally shooting Billy Chad Dellinger appeared in District Court Monday to meet with his court-appointed attorney and to learn the date for his probable cause hearing.
