October 9th
The eighth annual Foothills Regional Conference for Early Childhood Educators will be Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Iredell County Agricultural Resources Center, 444 Bristol Drive, Statesville. Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Sciences agents from Catawba, Iredell and Rowan counties host the award-winning conference.
Thirty-six prep golfers from all around Western North Carolina, including Hickory’s Peter Harrill, above, competed Monday at Rock Barn Golf & Spa’s Jackson Course for a chance to win the Ninth Annual Greater Hickory High School Classic. October 5th
Doris Thomas was just one of many seniors who received a flu shot at the Newton Recreation Center.
The drive ran from 1-3 p.m. and welcomed many seniors from the Newton area to get their vaccinations.
Monday, Oct. 1 Barry Redmond met with the Catawba County Board of commissions to ask for budget changes. The changes would help to fund the new South Newton Elementary campus. The school was built in stages with the oldest building constructed in 1958 and the newest building was erected in 1993.
Newton Fire Station No. 3 invites the public to an open house Sunday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m.
The open house is to show the public that station No. 3 serves the public with new renovations.
October 4th
Claremont Daze kicks off the first weekend of the month with two days of food, fun and entertainment Oct. 5 and 6.
Friday the event starts at 7 p.m. with 5th Quarter following the Bunker Hill High School football game.
Friday night entertainment features Too Much Sylvia on the main stage, a beer garden and food served at O’Cup Bakery and Beanery.
A barn in eastern Catawba County has a huge splash of color on one side and is a lot of talk in the community. One side of the barn was transformed into a giant folk art mural by area folk artist Robert Oren Eades III, with an important message telling passing motorists of the annual Lake Norman Folk Art Festival. The popular festival is Saturday.
The Alexander County Economic Development Corporation announced Gary Herman as the Small Business Development Coordinator. Herman’s first day on the job in Alexander County was Monday, Oct. 1.
