A teacher’s aide at Adrian Shuford Elementary School in Conover has brought a lawsuit against the Newton-Conover City Schools charging age discrimination in its hiring policies, after her court documents indicate she applied for a higher position and was by-passed for a younger applicant.
Kenneth Ray Phillips, 48, Connelly Springs, pled guilty to and was convicted of (F) Breaking and Entering (2 counts), (F) Larceny (3 counts), (F) Possession of Stolen Goods, (M) Simple Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance and Habitual Felon status on Oct. 16 in Burke County Criminal Court.
For the upcoming elections, Catawba County updated its Voting Locator website. The website gives voters an online tool to search for their polling place location. Residents can excess the the website through Catawba County home page, the Board of Elections page or directly at gis.catawbacountync.gov/voter/.
With a staff and student population of all women, Catawba Valley Community College’s Cosmetology School Director Tammy Muller decided Breast Cancer awareness was a great way for the women in the program to give back.
During the week of Oct. 15-19 all proceeds from the school go to Susan G. Komen For the Cure, a breast cancer foundation.
