Kevin Cline was Newton-Conover's "X factor" on Friday night against West Caldwell.
Whenever the Red Devils needed a big play, they got it from their junior quarterback. He rushed 14 times for 177 yards and passed for another 82 yards in Newton's 57-30 Senior Night rout of West Caldwell.
Newton-Conover (5-6 2-5) capped a frustrating season by posting a 50-plus point performance Friday.
It didn't come without a challenge from West Caldwell (0-11, 0-8), which was last winless in 2008 and has struggled through seven straight losing seasons.
Maiden 31, Draughn 7â€¨
Maiden the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference runner-up spot with an impressive victory over Draughn, 31-7.
Will Jenkins led the Blue Devils with 214 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns. On defense he collected an interception. Quarterback Matt Johnson rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries.
Draughn got on the board first when quarterback Keith Loomis connected with Alex McGee for a 25-yard touchdown.
Maiden trailed for 10 seconds.
On the ensuing kick-off Jose Campos raced 99 yards for a touchdown.
