Truck overturns

August 19, 2010

A dump truck fell into a ditch Thursday and overturned after its driver attempted to avoid a collision.

The truck was traveling on N.C. 10 west shortly before 3 p.m. when a vehicle in front of the driver stopped on the roadway.

The driver, whose name wasn’t available as of press time Thursday, didn’t have time to stop and turned the wheel to the right in an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision. T

Reunion heroes honored

The 121st Soldiers Reunion honored heroes.

Whether they are heroes of generations gone by, soldiers fighting overseas in current conflicts or  tomorrow’s servicemen and women, the Reunion honors them all.

Thousands of Catawba County residents gathered Thursday for Reunion Day and celebrated their heroes with memorial services, parades and patriotism.

Flash Watch Issued

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for portions of the Piedmont and western North Carolina effective until 10 p.m. Thursday. In western North Carolina, Alexander, Catawba, east Polk and greater Rutherford. In the Piedmont, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Davie, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg and Rowan.

Heavy rain will accompany thunderstorms this afternoon. and flooding may occur.

Places that experienced heavy rainfall and flooding this morning will be especially vulnerable to flooding later today. This flooding could last into the early evening hours.
