The Bunker Hill baseball team spoiled “Senior Night” for Bandys, but the Trojans were the ultimate winners on Tuesday night.
By virtue of Draughn’s 10-6 loss to Maiden in extra innings, the Trojans claim their first outright CVAC title since 2001.

James Daniel “Jimmie” Bolick, 83, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Catawba Valley Assisted Living at Rock Barn. Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is serving the family of James Daniel Bolick and condolences may be left at www.bass-smithfuneralhome.com.
Maiden musician Michael Ballard won the MerleFest 2013 Doc Watson Guitar Championship contest on Friday, April 26.

A lunchtime single vehicle accident Tuesday, on West 7th Street in Newton closed the road for an hour.
A 2003 Mazda van driven by Lesley Craig, 46, from Hickory, was traveling east on West 7th Street when she drove off the side of the road and failed to regain control for 375 feet before striking a guard rail and coming to a rest at the entrance to the Greenway Trail.

Mary Jane Wilson Hefner, 95, of Newton died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. The Hefner family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover.
