All three school systems in Catawba County have announced delays for Thursday.
Newton-Conover City Schools, Catawba County Schools and Hickory Public Schools have delayed their schedules two hours for Thursday, Jan. 8.
J. Jeneil Stewart, age 79, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville, NC, surrounded by his family. The Stewart family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Hickory, NC.
Just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, a white van overturned on Northwest Boulevard and spilled fuel along the roadway. The incident occurred directly in front of the Bi-Lo shopping center in Newton, where road crews working had already blocked one lane of traffic.
Catherine Renbarger is excited to get back to her North Carolina roots by taking the role as Claremont City Manager.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, emergency personnel responded to a call stating that a plane had crashed on First Avenue Northwest in Long View, according to Hickory Fire Department Fire Education Coordinator Terri Byers.
The single-engine plane took off from Hickory Regional Airport with four people on board â€” three passengers and a pilot.
