Jerry Wayne Shook, 75, of Maiden died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. The family will receive friends, Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden from 6:00 â€“ 8:00 p.m.
The race for District Attorney has heated up with early voting starting for the July 15 second primary.
In the 25th Prosecutorial District, incumbent Jay Gaither is running for his fourth term as the District Attorney for Catawba, Burke and Caldwell counties.
Gaither, a native of Newton, feels his 12 years of experience as District Attorney makes him the most qualified for the position.

The pitching performance comes just two days after Rudisill suffered a hip injury while being hit during an at bat.
Cameron Chapman and Jordan Eckard led Post 48 offensively in the victory.
Margaret â€śMaggieâ€ť Elizabeth Daniels, age 31, passed away June 28th, 2014. Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory is handling local arrangements for the Daniels family.
Chia Yer Lee, 67 of Conover died June 19th, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Burial will follow on Sunday, July 6th, 2014 at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.

"I remember it was a heavy, intense, unrelenting rain," said Newton City Manager Todd Clark about the July 2013 floods in Catawba County. "We had a swift water rescue here in Newton after a gentlemen was washed off a bridge. He was rescued, but it was very terrifying for him.
