Conoverâ€™s newest tech upgrade puts a host of city services in the palm of your hand â€” for free.
The city launched its â€śConover Mobileâ€ť application recently, giving cell phone and tablet users an all-access look at the city virtually anywhere.
The web portal has already won a state award.
Conover was notified in December it was a second quarterly winner of the Government Innovation Grant award, a program intended to reward technology-based innovation across governments through incentives.
The N.C. State Bar placed an injunction on a Newton attorney and requested more of his financial records.
A Wake County Superior Court judge ordered Friday that a preliminary injunction be placed on Lewis E. Waddell, a licensed Bar attorney who operates a Newton office and lives in Conover, after it appears he mishandled funds in a local clientâ€™s estate bank account.
The Bar also requested Waddell turn over current and closed client files for further investigation.
Waddell says he has consented to the order and has turned over all of his financial records.
A father and son were shot Sunday night after an argument escalated during a card game in Vale.
Authorities say a group of men were playing cards and drinking about 8 p.m. Sunday near the 7000 block of N.C. 10 West in Vale when an argument over a woman escalated and two of the men were shot.
Paul David Tallent, 49, and Dustin Dwayne Tallent, 27, both sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot once each by a revolver at their residence at 7429 N.C. 10 West in Vale, said Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid.

HICKORY â€” The North Carolina police department that solved the killing of a disabled 10-year-old Australian girl now has a portrait of the child to remind them of their duty to protect children.
A resident gave the city's police department the watercolor painting of the freckle-faced girl.
Police Chief Tom Adkins received the painting Friday with investigators who solved Zahra's slaying. Adkins says the painting will be a reminder of the need to protect children by reporting abuse.
STATESVILLE â€” Iredell County officials released the name of a man who was shot and killed by North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers after they say he fired at officers.
Officials say 45-year-old William D. Miller Jr. was shot to death early Sunday after he had fired at troopers and a sheriff's deputy near Statesville.
Authorities say three troopers and a sheriff's deputy were following up on a reported hit-and-run when a man left the home carrying a weapon. State police say the officers told the man to drop the weapon, and a deputy tried to use a Taser on the suspect.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) â€” Roy Hibbert scored 20 points to help the Indiana Pacers beat the Charlotte Bobcats 99-77 on Saturday night.
Hibbert, who briefly left the game with a sprained right ankle, also had eight rebounds and three blocks. Tyler Hansbrough scored 15 points, Darren Collison had 14, and Danny Granger and George Hill each added 13 for the Pacers (6-2), who improved to 3-0 at home. Indiana was coming off an 87-74 win at Boston on Friday night.
Newton-Conover took an early lead and pulled away from Bunker Hill for a 66-50 CVAC win.
Kevin Halloway led the Red Devils (8-6, 3-1) with 14 points.
Taylor Simmons netted a team-high 14 points for the Bears (2-13, 2-3).

Kadesha Gibbs, Taylor Petty and Shynese Whitener combined for 56 points to lead the Lady Red Devils (11-3, 3-1) to the win against the Lady Bears.
Gibbs also notched her 1,000th career point in Fridayâ€™s game.
