North Carolina is one of the nations leaders in the farming and agriculture industry, which is why Vale houses one of Catawba County's biggest produce farms.

"We moved to this area about 12 years ago from Haywood County," said Martha Calderon, partial owner of Calderon produce. "The harvesting season lasts much longer here and it's better for business."

85 Tigers take field at Foard football practice

The Fred T. Foard Tigers continued football practices on Wednesday.

A total of 85 players suited up for Foard, including 45 on the varsity squad and 40 on the junior varsity level.

92 campers learn drills, skills at Indian Football Camp

St. Stephens received a high turnout from its youth football camp this week.

A total of 92 young people from second through eighth grade were at the camp for its second day on Tuesday.

85 Red Devils hit the field in pads on Monday

The third official practice for high school football teams took place Monday, including at Newton-Conover High School.

It was the first of the practices in the afternoon for the Red Devils and also the first in shoulder pads, testing N-CHS’s football players.

Back-up Derek Anderson on standby as QB, father

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Derek Anderson has to be ready at a moment’s notice.

The Carolina Panthers back-up quarterback is not only prepared to step in to play if starter Cam Newton takes place, but also is preparing to become a father.

Despite receiving multiple offers in the offseason, Anderson re-signed with the Panthers on March 14.

National Night Out in Conover

Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover was the site for the 17th annual National Night Out in Conover on Tuesday.

The program is designed to draw community support for law enforcement throughout the nation. For the past 15 years the Conover Police Department has won national awards for participating in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

That neighbor is Sharman Odom.

BREAKING: Daniels' murder suspect is arrested

The man accused of murdering Maggie Daniels is in custody.

Sharman Howard Odom was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem while visiting relatives in the area.

The Newton Police Department sent out a release at 12:52 p.m. Saturday saying that an arrest warrant for Odom had been obtained on Friday, Aug. 1.
