Even the cold wind of Thursday night couldnât keep seniors from attending Newton Recreationâs annual Sweetheart Dance. Around 50 men and women came from various counties to enjoy a night of fellowship and fun.
Dressed in shades of red, pink and purple, they gathered around decorative tables embellished with traditional paper hearts and roses.
Rolling smoke could be seen miles away along Hwy. 321 Business at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday when a Maiden business caught fire.
Johnny On The Spot Heating and Cooling, on Cemetery Street, was engulfed in flames when firefighters from Maiden, North 321 and Newton departments arrived.

Entering this season, the Lenoir-Rhyne baseball program had an overall losing record in its 84-year history â 1,175 wins, 1,179 losses and seven ties.
This yearâs group of Bears, though, hope to build a winning baseball legacy that the will carry on for years to come.
