Maiden Man Arrested For Facebook Threats on Law Enforcement, Probation Absconder

Lincolnton, NC – Local, State and Federal officers arrested a Maiden man at a Lincoln County location after he issued threats against law enforcement on his Facebook page.

In front of her peers at Concordia Christian Day School in Conover, Brianna’s mom had stopped by the school for a surprise visit — the first time the two had seen each other face to face in eight months.

BREAKING: Danny Anderson hired to lead Maiden

Maiden High School sent shockwaves through the high school basketball scene on Thursday with the hiring of Danny Anderson

On the same day former boys basketball coach Pat Kahny resigned, the Blue Devils hired Anderson, a longtime head coach at West Caldwell, to assume the vacated position.

Maiden High School released a statement regarding Anderson’s hire on Thursday.

Home severely damaged by windy-day fire

A mobile home, located at 1870 Aprils Way in Newton, was severely damaged in a fire on Tuesday. The fire occurred around 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. More than 60 percent of the home’s roof was destroyed in the blaze. The Catawba County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the fire. No injuries were reported, but Tuesday’s extremely windy conditions reportedly contributed to the fire.

How does Newton city employees’ salaries compare?

The last time the City of Newton had a pay and classification study was in 2008. Since then, the city "has experienced employee turnover for various reasons but primarily as the results of our most seasoned employees entering retirement and other seeking more competitive salaries with neighboring governments," according the council's agenda package.

Woman allegedly bites police officer

March 18, 2015

Tamara Kennedy, 29, of Dixie Avenue in Newton, was indicted by Hickory Police Department Monday evening with one felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer and one misdemeanor count of resist, delay or obstruct a public officer.

The charges stem from a July 2014 incident where HPD responded to a civil disturbance in the 400 block of 2nd Street Place NE.

Leprechauns wreak havoc on Claremont Elementary class

March 18, 2015

Three classrooms at Claremont Elementary School were “vandalized” by pesky Leprechauns Tuesday around noon.

According to teacher Maria Wright, her class, along with the other second grade classes, were in the lunchroom when the incident happened.
