Fire guts garage

Fire fighters from Bandys and Catawaba Fire Departments hose down what is left of a two-story garage on East Bandys Crossing after a Thursday morning fire destroys the building . According to a neighbor Susan Chafin, a passer-by noticed smoke coming from the structure. “I went outside to look for myself and saw smoke. Then it just went up in flames.”

Tillis to visit Balls Creek Republican Fish Fry

Huge cast-iron pots will smoke over a wood fire and flames will flow out through the chimneys on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Bandys High School. The Balls Creek Republican Fish Fry is held every two years and features food, fellowsip and entertainment.

T. David West, age 23, of Newton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in Greensboro. Arrangements are incomplete at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

Norman “Cookie” Yates, 62, of Newton passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice. The Yates family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover, NC.

The Red Devils sent their seniors out in style on Wednesday, defeating rival Maiden 4-1 on "Senior Night" at Gurley Stadium.
