Sally Maney Eckard, age 60, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive on Friday, July 18 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home.

The unique and creative experience is set up as a week-long theatre day program for children in first to 12th grade. Voters packed polls statewide for runoff

Nearly 10,000 Catawba County voters cast ballots in Tuesday's runoff election, keeping with a statewide pattern of high turnout at the polls.

"We had almost 13 percent turnout," said Amanda Duncan, Catawba County Board of Elections director. "That was very much higher than normal."

Janice Lynn Cornett, 57 of Hickory passed away Monday, July 14th, 2014 at her home. She was born November 19th, 1956 in Ohio. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church ELCA in Conover. The family will receive friends following the service.

National Night Out in Conover

Conover is gearing up for their annual National Night Out event.

On Aug. 5, communities around the country will hold events sponsored by their local police departments as a part of the national day.

"It's a community event that they do nationwide," said Lt. Mark Stump with Conover Police. "We've been participating 17 years and it's a nationwide event."

Investigators eliminate several persons of interest in Daniels' death

The investigation into the death of Maggie Daniels continued on Tuesday as Newton Police and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation make progress with the investigation of the former Newton educator.

According to a Newton PD press release, local law enforcement has interviewed over 100 persons, while eliminating several people as persons of interest during the process.

BREAKING: Learner, Sigmon win runoffs on Tuesday

David Learner and Kim Sigmon won their respective runoff elections on Tuesday.

Learner defeated incumbent James C. "Jay" Gaither in the Republican primary runoff for the 25th Prosecutorial District Attorney — tallying 61.72 percent of the votes.

Meanwhile, Sigmon toppled Tammy Huffman West in the Clerk of Court's GOP race. Sigmon earned 60.45 percent of the votes.
