In 2013, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) spent more than $16 million to remove approximately seven million pounds of roadside litter.

The estimated cost of litter pickup is 30 cents per piece of litter.
One mile of highway contains approximately 16,000 pieces of litter.

Claremont man faces meth charges

Nathaniel Mica Falls, 40, of Claremont, was arrested by Claremont Police Department on Tuesday.

Tractor-trailer accident halts traffic on Highway 16

April 15, 2015

Traffic was blocked along Highway 16 after a tractor trailer ran off the roadway Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 4 p.m., a tractor trailer that appeared to be turning onto Highway 16 an d heading north ran off the roadway and down an embankment. No one was injured in the accident.

5 names in 2015 Catawba County Sports HOF class

The Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame will add five members on May 11 to its list of 61 names already enshrined.

The Hall of Fame’s 2015 class was announced on Tuesday at the Highland Recreation Center, and it features a longtime head coach, two former prep standouts, a journeyman race car driver and a bass fisherman.

Teen indicted for possession of a weapon of mass destruction

Catawba County Sheriff’s deputies were searching the home of 16-year-old Jordan Luke Harwood on Providence Mill Road in Maiden for suspected stolen property on October 24, 2014.

During the search, they spotted an illegal weapon, according to Sheriff Coy Reid.
