For Maiden’s Caroline Ward, good times never seemed so good.
A day after the Lady Blue Devils clinched their first conference softball title since 2006, the Maiden senior catcher signed to play at the next level with Catawba College.

April 23rd
Wayne Hicks was officially introduced as the football coach at St. Stephens High School on Tuesday during a special press conference in the school's media center.
The reception for Hicks by both players and coaches was positive.

A pick-up truck parked in the parking lot of Newton Family Physicians at 767 West First Street, Newton burned and damaged two other passenger cars, Tuesday morning shortly after 10 a.m.
No one was injured.
A black 1985 Chevrolet Silverado Pick-up truck, driven by Willie Mae Wilson, caught fire due to an excessive build-up of oil and debris on the motor.
With their NBA season less than a week from being over, the Charlotte Bobcats announced on Tuesday that they have fired Mike Dunlap after one season as head coach.
The search for Dunlap's replacement will start immediately.
April 22nd
Andy Poplin received approval to serve as the new Hickory High School boys basketball coach during Hickory Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Monday night.
Poplin replaces Lavell Hall, who announced on March 28 that he would not be returning for a second season at the helm of the Red Tornadoes.
An assistant coach from a rival program is taking over the helms of the St. Stephens football program.
Wayne Hicks, who has served as an assistant football coach at Hickory High School since 2008, was approved to be the next Indians gridiron leader by Catawba County Schools Board of Education during a close session at its monthly meeting on Monday night.
April 20th
It had been a long time since Matt Johnson and Zach Bumgarner had touched a football field for live game competition — that was until Saturday.
Both former Catawba County prep football standouts made their much-awaited college football debuts during the Charlotte 49ers first-ever spring football game this past weekend.
April 19th
Maiden’s Isaiah Henderson credits Rick Lomax with starting his pole vaulting career.
Now, the Maiden senior is hoping to honor the late coach’s memory with his performance this season.
