Boyfriend accused in death of 7-month-old child will not face death penalty

The District Attorney’s Office announced Monday, Feb. 2, that it will not seek the death penalty in the first-degree murder case of Tyler Leroy Eugene Linebarger.

Next court date set for Sharman Odom

February 3, 2015

Sharman Howard Odom, alleged murderer of Maggie Daniels, was given a continuation date of June 1, 2015 on Monday in an administrative session of Catawba County Court. Odom’s case will be discussed at another administrative session in June.

9 fires halt I-40 traffic

February 3, 2015

Around 1:30 on Saturday Conover Fire Department responded to a grass fire on I-40 near the Rock Barn Road exit. While on the way, Conover Fire units reported multiple fires in the median along I-40 as well.

A total of nine separate fires burned in the median of the interstate between exit 128 and 133, officials said.

Woman has fake IDs in Doritos bag, charged with DWI

Around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, a Newton Police officer observed a woman driving reckless on Southwest Boulevard near the Justice Center.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and the car stopped in the turn lane.

Bar fight in Maiden injures one

February 3, 2015

Shortly after 12 a.m. on Monday morning, a man by the name of Nathaniel Schronce was violently assaulted at East End Service Station at 601 Island Ford Road in Maiden.
