Catawba native Bobby Isaac to join NASCAR Hall

CHARLOTTE — Catawba native Bobby Isaac, Speedway Motorsports Executive Chairman Bruton Smith and two-time Sprint Cup champion Terry Labonte topped the newest group of five headed to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

NASCAR drivers Curtis Turner and modified series champion Jerry Cook completed the hall's seventh class Wednesday.

Red Hawks defy odds to reach College World Series

Searching to find its identity, the CVCC baseball team won only 10 of its first 23 games to start this spring season.

Nearly two months to the date later, the Red Hawks have defied the odds to reach the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) World Series in Enid, Okla. and are hoping to make some noise when the tournament starts this weekend.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) — A Montana man who was arrested after "liking" his mug shot on a Crimestoppers Facebook page has posted bond in a felony forgery case.
Levi Charles Reardon of Great Falls was arrested on April 24, three weeks after an acquaintance pointed out his picture on the Great Falls/Cascade County Crimestoppers Facebook page and Reardon liked it.

BREAKING: Wilkinson named N-C basketball coach

Newton-Conover High School is turning to an alumni to guide its boys basketball program.

After spending the past 15 years at Bunker Hill High School, Matt Wilkinson is returning home as the next leader of the Red Devils boys basketball team.

He was announced as the next head coach on Tuesday morning.

Wilkinson replaces Jonathan Tharpe, who stepped down as head coach on March 13.

Kain named president of recycling association

Catawba County's Waste Reduction Coordinator Amanda B. Kain, whose passion for recycling and extensive work has helped Catawba County lead the State of North Carolina in the amount of materials recycled, per person, has begun serving as President of the Carolina Recycling Association (CRA).
