Mary Agnes Rhinehardt, age 79, of Newton passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Rhinehardt family.

Maiden manhunt case comes to a close

Jeffrey Tucker, the convicted felon who sparked the manhunt in Maiden on the night of Thursday, Dec. 18 was arrested earlier this week.

Tucker was wanted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for a firearms violation, according to multiple sources.

Bumgarner named the AP's Male Athlete of the Year

Madison Bumgarner sat in the outfield alongside Jake Peavy before Game 7 of the World Series and told his teammate exactly what needed to happen: Tim Hudson would work a few innings and get the ball to Bumgarner, who would hand it off to the bullpen to finish the championship.

Peavy quickly offered his own prediction that Bumgarner would end it himself.
