Private First Class Ivan James Rowe, age 21, of Hickory, NC, passed away November 27, 2014 in Illesheim, Germany. Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Hickory is honored to be serving the Rowe family.
Rev. Pat Caswell Cloninger, age 85 of Newton, passed away November 30, 2014 at Lincolnton Rehab Center. A private burial will be held for the family at a later date.

Conover just became a little brighter for the season after the cityâs Christmas in the Park event on Tuesday evening. Event-goers were treated to hot chocolate, Christmas carols, hayrides, a visit from Santa Claus and the official âturning on the lightsâ for the community Christmas tree.
Conover Police Department will soon be adding another level of transparency to their department by investing in the use of body-worn video cameras.
âThis has a lot of pluses for us,â said Chief Steve Brewer. âWe can use to them to video evidence at crime scenes and itâs a way we can make ourselves more transparent to the public.â

The Fred T. Foard wrestling team earned its first tournament victory this past weekend, capturing the championship at the Enka Air Force Jet tournament.
Of the Tigersâ 14 wrestlers, 13 of them placed in the top three in their respective weight class, including four champions.
Margie Naoma Hahn, 77 of Newton, died Tuesday, November 25th, 2014 at Catawba Regional Medical Center. The Hahn family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Newton 828-464-1555.
The Green Room Community Theatreâs classic holiday musical, Miracle on 34th Street, continues through December 7, 2014 at the Old Post Office Playhouse in Newton, NC.
