Brad Keselowski wins at Richmond; Chase field is set

RICHMOND, Va. — NASCAR's new win-and-in format had the potential to give one driver a shot at a dramatic last-grasp berth into the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

There were 17 drivers who could have raced their way into the Chase by winning Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway, but Brad Keselowski would have nothing to do with a storybook ending.

Matt Johnson and his Charlotte 49er teammates were left with a bad taste in their mouths following a 33-9 season-opening victory against Campbell last week.

"We worked really hard this week," Johnson said. "We weren't really satisfied with the way we played last week, even with the win."

Red Devil defense shuts out Hickory in second half

Newton-Conover’s defense hadn’t allowed a single point in any of its games so far this season.

Giving up 21 points in the first half against rival Hickory, the Red Devils buckled down, allowing no Red Tornado points in the second half.

Newton-Conover scored 30-straight points en route to a 46-21 victory at Gurley Stadium against Hickory.

Behind Williams, Tigers end 20-game losing streak

Behind Matt Williams’ five touchdown passes, Fred T. Foard ended a 20-game losing streak on Friday with a 49-21 victory against Bunker Hill.

Williams completed 17-of-25 passes for 223 yards — 115 of those to Tyler Johnson.
