Reunion Kicks Off

Thousands of people gathered in the streets of Newton for the Soldiers Reunion Car Show and Cruisin’ on Sunday to kick off the week-long event.

Odom indicted with three felonies

The 18 member Catawba County Grand Jury met Monday morning and handed down an indictment for the alleged killer in the Maggie Daniels case.
The indictment of Sharman Howard Odom, also known as Sherman Howard Odom, of Newton, includes three felony charges —murder, first degree sexual offense, and first degree kidnapping.

Former Hickory product Succop returns to roots

The long journey in the career of kicker Ryan Succop came full circle on Sunday.

The former Hickory High and University of South Carolina standout played for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Carolina Panthers in preseason NFL action at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Stewart’s return sparks Panthers past Chiefs

Jonathan Stewart returned with a bang on Sunday.

The seventh year running back scored two touchdowns, leading the Carolina Panthers to a 26-14 win against the Kansas City Chiefs at Bank of America Stadium.

Tractor Trailer T-boned

No injuries were reporter after an SUV exiting BB&T parking lot in downtown Newton struck a tractor trailer heading West on West A Street Friday morning. Newton Police responded to the scene along with Newton fire and EMS.

Claremont Spec Building nears completion

The Claremont Spec Building in the Claremont International Business Park is only weeks away from completion but has already been shown to prospective companies several times. A partnership between Catawba County, the City of Claremont, the EDC’s Committee of 100 and Matthews Construction broke ground on the 51,200 sf speculative building on March 17th.

Cycle Challenge

The Carolina Cycle Challenge (CCC) will be hosting its second annual bike riding event to benefit the fight against pediatric cancer on Sunday, October 5, 2014. Taking over from Brett's Ride, the CCC is sponsored by all of the Rotary Clubs in the area.

Brenda VanHorn Willis 60 of Hickory died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Brian Center Hickory East. She was born May 3, 1954 in Cleveland County.

Residents at risk for record service scam

Some Catawba County residents have recieved letters about their property information that has Donna Spencer, Register of Deeds, concerned.

The letters, distributed by Record Transfer Services, ask property owners to pay a document fee of $83 to receive their property deeds.
