Patriotic babies, animals and country music

The week-long 125th Soldiers Reunion continues to see a huge turnout as Wednesday welcomed the Soldiers Reunion Baby Parade, Pet Mania and a double-dose of country music, headlined by Confederate Railroad.

Salute to Soldiers

"It's nice to know that, even after all this time and all these years, that people still appreciate us," said Peggy Isaac, of Newton. "It makes you feel good when people thank you, as a veteran. We went into service to protect the community, so that they could have celebrations and activities like Soldiers Reunion.

Panthers RB Barner traded to Eagles for draft pick

Kenjon Barner is joining his former college coach, Chip Kelly, as part of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The second-year Carolina Panthers running back was traded to the Eagles on Tuesday for a 2015 conditional seventh-round pick.

Kim Marie Jones Summey, age 52. Of Newton passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Burke Mortuary in Newton is serving the Summey family.

Kenneth Shook, 78, went home to be with his Lord and family on Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Newton. Drum Funeral Home & Cremations in Conover is honored to be serving the Shook family.

Cadets at Carolina

Six Fred T. Foard ROTC students got to experience a brand new view of Bank of America Stadium on Sunday.

The cadets presented the colors before the Carolina Panthers took the field to face the Kansas City Chiefs for their second preseason game this year.

Odom indicted with three felonies

The 18 member Catawba County Grand Jury met Monday morning and handed down an indictment for the alleged killer in the Maggie Daniels case.
The indictment of Sharman Howard Odom, also known as Sherman Howard Odom, of Newton, includes three felony charges —murder, first degree sexual offense, and first degree kidnapping.
