Experience paid off in a huge way on Tuesday for the Fred T. Foard boys soccer team in its second-straight 3A West Region championship game.
Led by a two-goal performance from Wyatt Shely, the Tigers advanced to their first-ever 3A state title game with a 2-0 win at Weddington.
Norma Jean Sigmon, age 80, of Hickory, went home to be with her Heavenly Father and family Friday, November 7, 2014 at Trinity Village in Hickory, NC. Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Hickory, NC is honored to serve the Sigmon family.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, a pedestrian walking down Kool Park Road in Hickory was struck by two vehicles, according to NC Highway Patrol.

When Lawrence Evans, of Newton, was only 17, he fibbed his age to enlist in the Army National Guard. After spending three years with the Guard, Evans enlisted with the Navy alongside his three brothers â€” Earl, Louis and Kenny.
Evansâ€™ job quickly moved from the sea to the air as he worked with a team of pilots to keep an eye out for enemy submarines.

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Hickory Sportsmanâ€™s Club on Thursday, ESPNâ€™s Jay Bilas visited Rock Barn Golf & Spa.

3A West Region championship
Fred T. Foard (21-5-2) at Weddington (22-1-1), 6 p.m.
The Newton-Conover and Fred T. Foard boys soccer teams are both a game away from playing for a state title.
The Red Devils edged Forbush, and the Tigers slid past Statesville â€” both by 2-1 scores â€” to advance to the 2A West Region and 3A West Region championship games.
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has released its preliminary playoff brackets.
