Haas, Durant share lead after Day 1 of GHKC

Jay Haas and Joe Durant share the lead after Friday's first round of the 12th Annual Greater Hickory Kia Classic (GHKC) at Rock Barn.

The 2005 and 2009 GHKC champion, Haas shot a 29 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine for his first-round score of 63.

Red Devils commit four turnovers in 49-28 loss

The Newton-Conover football team caught the “turnover bug” in its biggest game of the season Friday night.

Red Devil quarterback Cameron Stanley threw four interceptions in a 49-28 loss to East Lincoln on Friday night.

Newton-Conover falls to 6-1-1 overall on the season and 3-1-0 in conference games.

Trojans top Blue Devils; Trent Lowman makes history

Bandys defeated Maiden on the football field Friday at Blue Devil Stadium and in the process, gave its head coach some history to go along with the rivalry victory.

Trent Lowman became the first Trojan in history to defeat the Blue Devils as both a player and a coach in Bandys’ 29-21 win against Maiden.

Beam returns to Mustang roots, leading Red Devils

October 16, 2014

Matt Beam returns to his alma mater Friday to lead his Newton-Conover Red Devils into their biggest game of the season against East Lincoln.

A 1995 graduate of East Lincoln High school, Beam has coached against the Mustangs several times, including during his tenures at North Lincoln and Burns.
