"I never thought I'd own a baseball team," said Luther Beaver, part owner of the Hickory Crawdads. "When it came time to make a living, baseball had to take a backseat."

Smoking ordinance makes city healthier

Catawba County wants you to bud out that cigarette.

The county is encouraging its cities and towns to promote a healthier lifestyle. One way they’re doing this is by having the cities and towns to create tobacco free areas.

“Catawba County Public Health has long supported tobacco-free initiatives to promote health and has maintained a tobacco-free health department since 2005.

Panthers select Benjamin with 28th pick in NFL Draft

The Carolina Panthers solidified a large void at wide receiver by selecting one of the largest targets available at Thursday's first round of the NFL Draft.

The Panthers chose Florida State redshirt sophomore Kelvin Benjamin with the 28th overall pick.

“His size, his catch radius is phenomenal," said Panthers coach Ron Rivera of Benjamin. "He’s got a high ceiling.”
