Shuford Elementary Schoolâ€™s 5th grade students had an exciting day, on Thursday, Dec. 11th.
Educator Sherry Williams, from the Catawba Science Center in Hickory, visited with a batch of preserved amphibians for the students to study. The 5th graders are learning about the human body systems and how each structure functions.
Bursting someoneâ€™s bubble becomes quite literal for John and Shanda Boyles when they strap on their 20 pound suits and bump, flip and roll through their front yard. Their suits, comprised mostly of air, are known as Bubble Balls and serve as the basis of their Newton company, Bubble Sports.

A former Newton-Conover assitant football coach wonâ€™t return to his head football coaching position.
West Iredell High School announced on Friday that Mike Natoli, who spent the past two seasons as head coach of the Warriors, would not be returning for a third season.
From 2004-09, Natoli was an offensive coordinator under former Red Devil head football coach Nick Bazzle.
William David Andrew-Allen Sipe, age 77 of Vale passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at his residence. Goodin-Drum Funeral Home is serving the Sipe family.

Reaching the $500,000 mark in fund raising was the theme of a recent celebration at the Historic Newton Depot on November 15 that was open to the public. Almost 100 people ventured out on that very cold Saturday to see several new artifacts that will be on display at the Southeast Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum being created at the Depot.
Ivy Robertson felt the need to give to the less fortunate pressing on her heart when she decided to begin In My Fatherâ€™s House. Robertsonâ€™s family and a group of volunteers have been collecting coats and food for the needy for about five years. In the last few weeks, In My Fatherâ€™s House opened the doors to their thrift store in downtown Newton for the first time.
